The Las Animas wrestlers had a busy week, competing at the Santa Fe League duals on Thursday and the Salida tournament on Saturday. Senior Marcos Fernandez showed why he is a two-time state qualifier by taking first place in Salida at 106 pounds. "Marcos brought his A-game on Saturday, pinning every opponent he faced," said coach Sam Vigil, "He got the job done in the first period of every match." Joining Marcos on the podium at 120 pounds was Latrell Stine. Stine won his first match 10-6 over Martinez of Del Norte before losing to Speece of Bayfield, to finish in fourth place.

At the Santa Fe League duals, 138 pound junior Charles Willis pinned Sandoval of John Mall and 152 pound sophomore Jason Gonzales won over Quintana of John Mall. Coming off of an injury, Ty Patton quickly pinned his opponent from Fowler in an exhibition match.

The Trojans headed to Fowler Thursday night at 6 p.m. for another Santa Fe League dual and will be in a tournament in Trinidad this weekend.
