Bent County basketball teams went four-for-eight over the weekend as each squad emerged Saturday 1-1.

Both Las Animas boys' and girls' basketball teams were victorious over John Mall High School Friday evening, while both fell to Swink Saturday. The McClave boys' basketball team cruised past Eads Friday and fell to Springfield Saturday while the Lady Cardinals lost to Eads and emerged victorious in overtime against Springfield Saturday.

The LAHS boys basketball team sits 4-8 on the season. Friday's victory over winless John Mall (0-12) sparked a turnaround of recent trends in which LAHS faltered down the stretch. Trailing 26-21 at the half, Las Animas prevailed late, outscoring John Mall 35-19 in the second half to win 56-45.

Saturday's 71-60 loss to Swink is the second loss to the Lions in two weeks for LAHS.

The Lady Trojans shared the same fate as they played well against John Mall Friday, winning 50-41. The Lady Trojans scored in double digits in the second (14), third (13) and fourth (14) quarters. Against Swink, a strong first half, leading to a marginal 24-19 first half deficit, increased in the second half, resulting in a 46-32 loss.

The Lady Trojans sit 4-8 on the season.

The McClave High School boys basketball team threw their weight around Friday evening against Eads, winning big, 50-27. The Cardinals bounced back from a slow start, trailing 7-6 after the first quarter, to score 17, 13, and 14 points in the ensuing quarters to cruise to victory.

Against Springfield Saturday, another slow start this time didn't reverse itself as MHS trailed 22-5 and by double digits following each quarter en route to a 63-42 loss.

McClave sits even at 6-6 on the year.

The Lady Cardinals held a first quarter lead over Eads Friday, 10-6, but were outscored in each of the following quarters, losing 44-30.

Saturday evening, McClave and Springfield played to a 32-32 tie after four quarters of play to force overtime. In the quarter, MHS prevailed 5-4 to win the game 37-36. MHS is 8-4 overall.

Las Animas will host Swallows Charter Academy Friday evening beginning at 5 p.m. and will travel to Ordway to take on Crowley County Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. McClave will host Manzanola Friday evening beginning at 4 p.m.
