One year removed from their best season yet since combining the McClave and Wiley High School baseball programs four years ago, the County Line Rivals are eyeing their first ever Santa Fe League championship entering the the 2015 season.

"We feel like we can finish near the top of the league this season," said co-head coach Terry Weber, a statement echoed by fellow head coach Dave Eastin. "The Santa Fe League is tough, but we feel like we should be right there with the top three teams this year. We were young last season and shared second place in league standings for the first time last season," Eastin said.

Returning for the Rivals are five starters, including a trio of pitchers County Line will rely heavily on. Sophomores Steven Weber and Christian Dellamaestra will join junior Caden Eastin on the mound, giving the Rivals a young but talented pitching group.

Also returning is junior Luis Lopez and senior Keaton Buxton along with Dayton Garcia and Michael Sanders, who each earned considerable playing time last season.

"We are excited about this year," Eastin said. "When we combined teams four years ago, we (Wiley) had a total of 16 boys and nine girls and weren't very competitive."

"Four years ago we (McClave) won one game", added Weber. "We've come a long way."

In total, County Line will field 16 athletes, including nine athletes from McClave and seven from Wiley.

Representing McClave is freshman Lucas Salazar, sophomores Blake Brubacher, Steven Weber and Gerardo Salas, juniors Ryan Schmidt, Luis Lopez and Dayton Garcia, and seniors Keaton Buxton and Colten Davis. Representing Wiley are a big group of sophomores including Jeffrey Burke, Gavin Hebberd, Cole Smith, Christian Dellamaestra and Colten Reed and two juniors including Michael Sanders and Caden Eastin.

County Line will open season play March 26 at Holly beginning at 3 p.m. They will begin Santa Fe League play March 28 by hosting Crowley County beginning at 10 a.m.

"Crowley County is a big game for us," said Eastin. It's our first league game, and we want to be prepared by the time we reach that game."
