LAS ANIMAS - Southeastern Colorado Junior Cattlemen members, with help from advisers Jo Ann McEndree and Carol Rink, held its annual meeting April 11. Tatum Chase of McClave was re-elected president. Following business, a field trip to the Las Animas Fish Hatchery allowed the ranch youth to see a different ag area – aquaculture.

Chad Russell of Sugar City was selected as the 2015 scholarship recipient. During the evening’s auction a set of custom-made spurs, created by silversmith Don Albert of Walsh, plus hand-tooled spur straps by his brother, were sold. The spurs, with the Bent-Prowers brand, were a hot item and boosted the junior scholarship fund for future recipients.
