Bent Count County Commissioners heard reports from Jonna Parker, director of Bent County Department of Social Services, and Barry Goodrich, warden, Bent County Correctional Facility at their most recent meeting, June 24.

Parker said Department of Social Services had received $10,000 from Colorado as start-up funds for the Employment First program that resumes Aug. 1, 2015.

Additionally, Parker said the social services department currently has several job openings they are trying to fill.

Goodrich reported that, with the arrival of new inmates this week, the prison's population should hit in the 1380s mark.

Goodrich said that the prison currently has 13 positions vacant, but expected to fill most of those with the new graduating class of 12, as well as some transfers from closing facilities out of state.

"Retention is better," he said.
