The Diabetes Control Group will feature Wendy Fisher, Master of Public Health and Registered Dietitian at 3:30 on Wednesday, Dec. 9, said Barb Johnson, Coordinator of Diabetes Education. Fisher is speaking on how to survive the holidays, enjoying food and the people you love while keeping your diabetes under control.

She has many survival tips, from portion control to modifying some recipes in a way that they still taste good. You don't necessarily have to avoid the foods you love. She will have samples of some of these modified recipes for you to taste.

Asked about her favorite holiday recipe, she says she always enjoys her mother's onions with cheese sauce. Some people think this is an odd dish, she says, but she always looks forward to it. The cheese does have a lot of calories, but the dish is low carb.
