Last week’s Bent County Fair can be described as a lot of things – wet, hot, or even humid; but, despite oftentimes undesirable weather patterns, the fair, as it’s traditionally become known locally, can best be described as a family-fun event for individuals of all ages.
Among the many participants in 4-H shows throughout the week, the crowd was adorned with proud parents, many of whom showed as youth at the exact fair, admiring siblings, and grandparents who had traveled from out of town to see their grandchildren participate in 4-H.
In fact, many of the same youth showed either multiple animals in one class, or showed animals in different classes, showing just how dedicated youth in Bent County are to their farming and agricultural roots.
Youth showed pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, horses and rabbits, while also taking part in shooting sports. Furthermore, numerous General Class projects were on display at the fairgrounds for event goers to enjoy.
The fair even strayed a bit from the traditional norm and brought a cornhole tournament to the fairgrounds last Saturday evening, drawing participants from throughout the county that may not have otherwise attended the fair.
Given the uncooperative weather, coordinators persevered, and the community stayed put throughout the week, further demonstrating the importance of the Bent County Fair to those who took part.
The proud tradition will undoubtedly continue throughout the years and will once again be on full display, regardless of weather, next July.
