In February of 2023, Otero student Jake Hinds traveled to Lisbon, Portugal to present at the Excellence in Research & Innovation (EIRAI), International Centre of Economics, Humanities, & Management (ICEHM), & Dignified Research Publication (DiRPUB) Conference with Dr. Robert Mitchell, Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership, Research, and Foundations at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs (UCCS). Their presentation, titled "Rural and Remote Education: Outcomes and Challenges" focused on the advantages and disadvantages of rural education in the United States.

2022 Santa Fe Trail Day Queen Grace Gardner and King Kaden Maes assisted with the 2023 event Friday. Gardner and Maes took their final walk at the Las Animas High School gymnasium, crowning the new queen and king afterwards. SUSAN WARING

This spring, six local students took part in the Arkansas Valley Regional Science Fair and were then selected to participate in the Colorado State Science and Engineering Fair April 13 through 15. The Colorado State Science Fair, Inc. honors excellence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; providing opportunities for students from all regions of the state to create and present their research in environments that nurture interest in science and technology; promoting professional skills, high ethical standards, diversity and continuing intellectual development.

The Bent County Art Guild has announced winners of their 18th annual art show and were delighted with 229 entries. 2023 winners are: First and second place Reece Robb – oil and acrylic category.
