The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) is investigating a single vehicle rollover accident that left one man dead and a passenger injured early Saturday morning between La Junta and Las Animas. According to CSP, at 1:40 a.m., a 2019 Dogde Caravan driven by a a 41-year-old man from Rocky Ford was traveling westbound on US Highway 50 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a left curve and went off the right side of the roadway near mile marker 397.
The presumed mishandling of evidence by the Rocky Ford Police Department resulted in a mistrial being declared in the trial of accused murderer Edward Aragon Friday afternoon. Aragon is being tried for the 2015 murder of his girlfriend, 23-year-old Amanda Ybarra, who lived with Aragon and was found deceased in their home.
Parenting Classes Tri-County Family Care Center will be sponsoring “Partners in Parenting” parenting classes, Wednesday evenings, March 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, April 6th, 13th. On Saturday, February 19, at approximately 12:41 p.m., Bent County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to an individual dressed in all black shooting in a neighborhood of Las Animas. Deputies located the individual, who willingly surrendered to law enforcement and was placed into custody.

Well water in Southeast Colorado contains radionucleides, since radium and uranium are naturally occurring minerals. Add to that nitrates (agriculture uses fertilizer), bacteria, selenium and iron in the alluvial aquifer. There’s a limit to what even a good water system with reverse osmosis will take out.

When officers reponed to a reported burglary on February 7th, the incident pointed to a broader issue facing the community of La Junta, an increase in burglary and crime. Police apprehended Thirty-six-year-old Chezaray Chavez for a reported burglary at Thyme Square building at 302 Colorado Avenue.
