Swink, McClave, Cheraw advance to state tournament
Three area high schools survived the gauntlet that is the regional volleyball round over the weekend, or Monday for weather delayed matches, to advance the Colorado High School State Volleyball Championships beginning today in Denver.Swink will represent the Arkansas Valley in the Class 2A field, having earned the fourth overall seed, while McClave and Cheraw will compete int he the Class 1A tournament as the fifth and 11th seeds, respectively.Swink hosted Loveland Classical Academy and Burlington in the regional round Sunday afternoon after weather delayed play two days.SHS defeated Loveland Classical in the opening round, 3-0, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-6.Taylor Mendehall and Daisy Heberlie each recorded double digit kills (10) to lead the Lions offensively, Mendenhall adding six blocks defensively.Burlington went on to earn a three set sweep of Loveland Classical int he second game of the day, winning 25-13, 25-17, 25-14, thus setting up an winner take all scenario int he final game of the day.SHS rolled int eh regional finale, defeating the Cougars, 3-1, again behind Mendenhall and Heberlie, winning the match 3-1.

El Pomar Trustees approved $90,000 allocated to 10 nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the Southeast region at the Foundation’s September Trustees meeting.Of the recipients, $5,000 has been awarded to Tri-County Family Care Center, Inc.
