Death threats made against elected officials in Crowley County has been escalated to federal authorities, said Sheriff Terry Reeves in a social media statement posted Thursday afternoon. “The investigation into the threats received by many Crowley County residents on June 27-28, 2022, is now nearly complete and we have forwarded the case for prosecution,” said Reeves.

The Otero County Sheriff’s Department released information about a man, described as being in his 70’s, who was stuck at the bottom of Picketwire Canyon on July 17. Their deputies, along with the La Junta Fire department, EMS, and Parks and Wildlife, conducted a search and rescue and located the man after a ‘lengthy haul out of the canyon.’ They transported him to Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center and thanked everyone involved in the rescue, including Officer Steve Keefer.

The Board of County Commissioners held their regular public meeting Monday, and part of their agenda was to vote on a resolution, Resolution 22-07, which opposes the closure of the La Junta VA clinic. The board voted on the resolution unanimously and claimed in the resolution that the closure of the clinic could “Decimate the morale of our veterans.”

Rangers at Lake Pueblo State Park recovered a body off the popular North Sailboard beach area last Thursday shortly after receiving a call for help that a woman had gone missing from shore. Park Manager Joe Stadterman and his team raced to the beach by boat, arriving within six minutes at 4:37 p.m.
