Irene Estabrooks

Irene Estabrooks, 87, died of cancer on June 11, 2022, in Baker City, Oregon. Irene, a resident of Baker City and a life-long resident of Las Animas, Colorado before moving to Baker City to live with her family, died surrounded in love with family by her side.

George W. Smith

George Watson Smith, 72 years old, died Saturday, May 21, 2022. He died at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, due to complications of leukemia. George was born October 2, 1949, in Las Animas, Colorado. He was the son of George H. Smith and Maude Ellen (Kerr) Smith. George graduated from Las Animas High School in Las Animas, Colorado, in 1967. He also attended Otero Junior College in La Junta, Colorado, as well as Colorado University in Boulder Colorado. George then served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War, as military police in Maryland. George worked in Liberal, Kansas where he met and married Karen Rose Juhl. They married on November 20, 1971. George worked for BP AMOCO for 31 years. He analyzed gas and did corrosion prevention until he retired in 2005. He worked for Jim Harbour flagging work sites, and then was working as a Relief Rural Mail Carrier at the time of his death. Survivors are his wife, Karen; his daughter Valerie Renee Smith of Ulysses, Kansas, and one granddaughter/daughter Bailey Rae Phillips Smith of the family home, as well as many cousins. George was preceded in death by his parents; sister Patricia A. (Smith) Turner; and brother Terry J. Smith. Funeral services will be held at the Peace Valley Cemetery on the Smith Ranch, 20034 Country Road Z, Hasty, Colorado, on October 1, 2022, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please, make a donation to the Cancer Society or your local food bank.

Virgil Leroy Hogue

On Sunday May 22, 2022 our loving son and brother Virgil Leroy Hogue passed away. Virgil was born on February 23, 1969 in La Junta, CO to Virgil L Hogue and Marilyn J Hogue. He is survived by his four sisters Marilyn (Robert) Lucero, Virginia (Rick) Sandoval, Penny Maestas, Loretta (Stacey) Honebein and his brother Lee (Brenda) Hogue. He also had several nieces and nephews along with several great nieces and nephews.

Dee Ann Bishopp

We regretfully announce the passing of Dee Ann Bishopp, 83, of Tucson, Arizona. Dee passed away on January 27, 2022. Dee was born on October 2, 1938, to Ivan and Ruth Arthola Harman in the small city of Las Animas, Colorado. After Dee graduated from Las Animas High School in 1956, she pursued a degree in education at the University of Northern Colorado. On June 17, 1962, she and James Bishopp married in Las Animas, Colorado. In 1964 they went on to move to Tucson, Arizona since James received a teaching job in the Tucson Unified School District. Dee and James went on to have two children, James and Steven Bishopp. In Tucson, Arizona, she worked as a director for St Paul’s United Methodist Church’s preschool then as a kindergarten teacher at Erickson Elementary School. Dee was passionate about teaching and loved what she did for a living. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Dee was passionate about traveling, reading, painting, and genealogy when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. Dee joins James Bishopp (husband) and Ivan and Ruth Arthola Harman (parents) in Heaven. She is survived by her brother Gary (Jean), sons James (Penny) and, Steven (Vikki), and grandchildren, Lindy, Baylee, Alexis, and Steven.

Caroll Lynn (Waldroop) Robbins

Caroll Lynn (Waldroop) Robbins, 84, formerly of Altus, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 in Weatherford, Texas. The family hosted a visitation at 1:00 PM Friday, April 22, 2022 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with a service that followed at 2:00 PM with Daniel Ingram officiating. Burial was in the Navajo Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Funeral Services for Dean Moore will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church in Las Animas, Colorado with Pastor Mark Cloer officiating. Interment will follow in the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery with Military Committal Rites provided by V.F.W. Post #2411 and American Legion Post #6. Per Dean’s request, there will be no public visitation.
