The Las Animas Trojans looked to push their way in to the top 36 Regional this coming weekend with strong showings in their last games. Considering themselves “on the bubble,” the Trojans had to show strong against Burlington and Calhan this past week.
La Junta Senior Golf League met Tuesday, May 16, to play nine holes of scramble golf. Forty-four players comprised nine teams (one team of 4 players and eight teams of 5 players). We welcomed a new member, Kimi Kelley. Each team was given a string in order to “lengthen” their putts on the green to better their score. It was very close scoring.
This week the Las Animas Trojan Track and Field squad wrapped up their season at the Friday Night Lights Invitational at Pueblo West. The invitational begins at 2 p.m. and invites teams to come and eventually run “under the lights” as the meet runs well into the dark.
The Las Animas Trojans were busy on both sides of town in Walsenburg on Friday. The Trojan Track and Field squad competed in the annual Cinco de Mayo Invitational while the baseball team competed at the baseball complex against the Panthers.
There was a lot of action this week at Sonny Smith Field. The Las Animas Trojans hosted several teams in JV action, but the Trojans had one varsity double-header in Walsenburg.
The Trojan Baseball squad was busy this week at Sonny Smith Field. The Trojans’ schedule had them also traveling to Calhan this week, but weather said otherwise. That game is rescheduled for later this month.
La Junta The Tigers have found relative success on the diamond this season, sporting a 9-6 record thus far. That said, overall success will be measured, undoubtedly, in the weeks to come as the Tigers enter the final stretch of the regular season play against league opponents.
This week the Las Animas Trojan Track and Field squad loaded up Saturday morning and headed to Harrison for the second time of the season. This time, the Trojans competed in the District 2 Invitational. With 27 teams, the Trojans had a chance to improve times across the board.
The Las Animas Trojan Baseball squad had two double headers last week as they traveled to Swink for a rescheduled matchup against the Lions and on Saturday the Trojans hosted the Rocky Ford Meloneers. Both of these matches were league matches, so they count for regional and league standings.
