This week, the Las Animas Trojan wrestlers traveled to Crowley County for a dual meet against the Chargers and then traveled back to Ordway for the Charger Invitational. On Thursday night at the match night, Scott Pollock, Luis Carrillo, and Cody Netherton all recorded victories in what was posted in TrackWrestling.
The Las Animas Trojans looked to build on their in-league win streak this week as they faced two tough league opponents in the John Mall Panthers and the Crowley County Chargers. The original plan for the John Mall game was to travel to Walsenburg, but a water main break forced the Panthers to come to Las Animas for the second time this season.
The Las Animas Lady Trojans have fought and battled several close games this season, only to be at the wrong side of the score when reporters share their numbers with their audience. This week, however, the Ladies’ hard work and determination paid of with two big league wins.
This week the Las Animas Trojans hit the hardwood with a goal of improving their league standing. Going into this pair of league matches, the Trojans were 0-4 in league play with several nail biters in the past few weeks.
BOYS BASKETBALL Fowler (8-7) Fowler couldn’t have asked for a better gift on their home court Friday evening when visiting Crowley County’s top scorer was bench with foul trouble throughout the majority of the game. Charger Gunner Hughes played, maybe, five minutes the entire first half and fouled out of the game early in the fourth quarter, paving the way for a potential FHS upset. It wouldn’t come to fruition, however, as CCHS rolled to a 55-26 Pumpkin Game victory over the Grizzlies. It should be noted that the Grizzlies were without their leading scorer, Gage Gottbehuett, who, to date, leads the team with an average of 13.9 points per game.
This week, the Las Animas wrestling squad hosted their home quad and honored their one senior: Gabe Tapia; and traveled to Center for, what student athletes dubbed “The toughest tournament of the season:” the Valley Classic.
The Las Animas Lady Trojans had two tough league matchups this week against the Lady Meloneers and the Lady Farmers. The first game on Tuesday in Rocky Ford began with a strong push by the Lady Meloneers to shut the Lady Trojans down.
