Trojans 1-1 in weekend play

Las Animas’ Damien Baca placed an area best 29th and Fowler High School made school history in fielding and scoring a full team at the Class 3A State Golf Championships last week in Denver. Baca led a field of six Arkansas Valley qualifiers that include La Junta’s Steven Salas, Swink’s Nick Paoluccia, and a trio of Grizzlies, including Harrison Proctor, Blake Buchner, and Hagen McCuistion.


This week the Las Animas Trojans hit the road to Holly to face the Wildcats on the gridiron on Friday night. The Trojans hit first and hard.

The Lady Trojans only had one match this week as they hosted the John Mall Lady Panthers this past Thursday night. The Lady Trojans, with the win would even their record to 6-6 and 4-4 in league play.


This past week at Las Animas High School was homecoming. The Trojans and Lady Trojans alike were excited. Not only excited to play in front of their fans and obnoxiously dressed peers, but to get on track and start the second half of the regular season on the right foot.

It was a dismal home opener for the Las Animas at Jack LaSalle Field on Friday night. The Trojans, 0-2 on the season, hosted the Crowley County Chargers – ranked #6 in 8-man football.
La Junta and Crowley County high schools moved up in their respective football polls this week, following blowout wins over the weekend and a bit of help from teams previously ranked above them. La Junta made the leap from ninth to eighth in the Class 2A football poll released Monday by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
