Area athletes earn All-State honors

Six area high school baseball players have been recognized by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) as members of the prestigious All-State team for the 2022 baseball season. Las Animas High School sophomore TJ Ortiz earned the top honor regionally, being named to the Class 2A Second Team All-State.

Otero’s Linsay Rosser Sumpter Named Commissioner of the Women’s Rodeo World Championship

In March, the Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) named Linsay Rosser Sumpter their event commissioner. Sumpter is also the Head Rodeo Coach at Otero College. Some of her responsibilities with the WRWC include working with the athletes, increasing their opportunities, and ensuring their experience with the WRWC is collaborative and positive. She will help build and expand female rodeo talent and continue the growth of women’s rodeo.

People who know new Lakers coach Darvin Ham praise his virtues: ‘He’s the right guy’

The job, as much as it is anything else, requires a coach to stand next to LeBron James, a player who has been one of basketball’s most famous since he was in high school, and forge a partnership. So, naturally, the Lakers went and hired Darvin Ham, who spent most of his one-year high school basketball career on the bench before playing two years of junior college basketball at Otero Junior College in 1992-1993.
