La Junta and Crowley County high schools moved up in their respective football polls this week, following blowout wins over the weekend and a bit of help from teams previously ranked above them. La Junta made the leap from ninth to eighth in the Class 2A football poll released Monday by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
The Las Animas Lady Trojans split their matches this week against the Lady Chargers and the Lady Bolts. On Tuesday in Las Animas, the Ladies won 3-2 as matches went back and forth in favor of Las Animas.
The Trojans had a bye week on the gridiron, so in the midst of preparing for Crowley County next week, the Trojans hosted a Skills and Drills Camp for 3rd-8th grade students. The camp focused on fundamentals as the Recreation League will begin their season this week.
The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) released their weekly rankings for all fall sports athletics, notably volleyball, football, and softball, as it pertains to local athletes. Earning the top ranking among area high school volleyball teams is Fowler High School, which ranks sixth in the Class 2A poll.

The Las Animas High School volleyball team got back to their winning ways last week, earning a 3-0 sweep over Holly Tuesday and a 3-1 victory over Swink Thursday. The Trojans move to 4-2 on the early season and 2-1 versus Santa Fe League opponents.
The Las Animas Trojans continued their 2022 campaign on September 2 in Lyons, CO against the aptly named Lions. The Trojans, 0-1 on the season after their opener in Calhan, looked to even their record.
