Last week, along with Football and Volleyball, Trojan Cheer got a fresh start as well. Continuing the new coach overhaul in Fall, Katie Lockhart is fresh at the helm for the Trojan Cheer Squad.
Last week began Trojan Golf, and this week begins practice for Trojan Football and Lady Trojan Volleyball. Both squads had a coaching change during the off-season.
The Lamar, La Junta and Rocky Ford high school softball teams earned a pre-season top ten ranking via the Colorado High School Activities Association, a poll that is released every Monday. Lamar is ranked third in the Class 3A poll, La Junta is ranked seventh, and Rocky Ford is ranked tenth.
With the changes that have occurred in college sports the past couple of years, high school sports is truly the last level of pure amateur competition in our country – and the NFHS and its member state associations want it to remain that way.

The Colorado High School Activities Association, in conjunction with the National Association of Sports Officials (NASO) hosted the inaugural Officiate Colorado Day Saturday, July 30, in Westminster. The event was years in the making, originating from the late CHSAA Associate Commissioner overseeing officials, Tom Robinson.

Otero College The Otero Athletics Department is pleased to announcethatBrandon Coates has been selected as Otero College’s new Head Wrestling Coach and will begin his duties on July 25. Coates comes to Otero after coaching wrestling at La Junta High School for the past 16 years, the last nine of those years as head coach.
