On June 3, 2022 the North vs. South Senior Elite All State game played out on the field of Gilpin County High School, just outside of Black Hawk. The field’s landscape is not one to forget. The Crowley County Chargers met Soroco High School on a mid-meeting demographic earlier this fall. The Colorado High School Activities Association has named Bethany Brookens to be the next associate commissioner of the Association. Brookens’ appointment to the associate commissioner position was made by incoming CHSAA commissioner Mike Krueger and will begin effective immediately.
Six area high school baseball players have been recognized by the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) as members of the prestigious All-State team for the 2022 baseball season. Las Animas High School sophomore TJ Ortiz earned the top honor regionally, being named to the Class 2A Second Team All-State.

The Colorado High School Activities Association has named John Sullivan to be the next assistant commissioner. Sullivan has worked in public education for 22 years as a teacher, a coach of both boys and girls sports, and an administrator.
Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Seattle and Kansas City, Missouri, were the newcomers among the 11 U.S. sites picked to host games at the 2026 World Cup, while Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, Nashville, Tennessee, and Orlando, Florida, were left out.
In March, the Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC) named Linsay Rosser Sumpter their event commissioner. Sumpter is also the Head Rodeo Coach at Otero College. Some of her responsibilities with the WRWC include working with the athletes, increasing their opportunities, and ensuring their experience with the WRWC is collaborative and positive. She will help build and expand female rodeo talent and continue the growth of women’s rodeo.
