
Lions, Trojans split Saturday doubleheader
Two top teams in Santa Fe League play settled for a split Saturday afternoon in Swink, the Lions coming away with an opening game, 10-3, victory over Las Animas, while the Trojans took the finale, 19-10.

Seven area high schools took part in the Ray Headley Invitational in Swink Friday afternoon, including Swink, Rocky Ford, Fowler, Las Animas, McClave, Crowley County, and Cheraw. The Rocky Ford boy’s team had the best showing of all area teams, placing third in the overall team standings.

The Las Animas High School baseball team enters Santa Fea League play this weekend with a 5-2 overall record. The Trojans earned a season opening sweep over Center High School on March 15, 15-0, 9-1.

“Risk and Resilience in the Arkansas Basin” restores in-person event after 2-year pandemic pause The 26th episode of the Arkansas River Basin Water Forum, the basin’s premiere water event, will feature the state’s top water experts discussing critical issues facing all segments of water users – agriculture, municipal, recreation, environmental and industrial – and engage attendees in seeking solutions to the many challenges faced in planning for a secure water future for the largest of Colorado’s river basins. Taking place Thursday and Friday, April 28-29, the 2022 Arkansas River Basin Water Forum will focus on “Risk and Resilience in the Arkansas Basin,” exploring topics that include the effect of Colorado River policies on the Arkansas River, ongoing drought and potential aridification in the southwestern United States, the impact of wildfires on water supplies, and much more (see attached draft program).

The 2021-22 season came to an end on consecutive nights for the Las Asnimas High School basketball teams; the boys against Fowler last Monday, 63-49, and the girls against eventual District 6 Tournament champions Rye on Tuesday, 69-30.

District tournament brackets have been set in Class 2A Santa Fe League following the conclusion of regular season play last Tuesday. Cross-divisional games pitting east against west got underway last Thursday with opening round games featuring fourth and fifth place finishers in both boy’s and girl’s brackets.

After two days of battling the best wrestlers in southern Colorado, two Las Animas High School wrestler emerged in their respective weight class’s top four and will compete at the Colorado High School State Wrestling Championships at Ball Arena in Denver beginning today.
