Cecil Lee Gribble

Cecil Lee Gribble passed away on October 25, 2022, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the age of 80. He was born on July 12 194 in Onley Springs, Colorado, to Willis Martin and Marguerite (Burrell) Gribble. Per Cecil’s request, cremation has taken place. Cecil was one of 12 kids. Cecil was very proud of his service in the Army. He served in the Vietnam war as a helicopter weapons specialist. He received a Vietnam Service Medal for being an M-14 rifle expert. After his service Cecil made Western Colorado his home. That is where he married Lois (Langford) Gribble in 1967. This is where they raised their sons, Dean and Lee. They later divorced. While living on the Western Slope, Cecil loved hunting, fishing and boating. He was a strong supporter of both Dean and Lee while they played football, baseball, and raced BMX bikes. He worked as a heavy equipment operator who took great pride in his work. In 1993, he went to work in Eastern Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Karyl (Cox). They married in 2006. During this time, they moved to Las Animas, where he worked as a ditch rider. This gave him the opportunity to meet many members of the community. Karyl and Cecil, with the help of her kids, built their dream home in to Las Animas. This is where they made home and lived out their lives. Cecil is remembered by his grandkids as being the best grampy ever. He had a good grampy smell of sawdust and spearmint. He had the best hugs and grampy Kisses ever. He always kept things light and made people smile. A favorite memory is of him being a claw machine master, Cecil’s laugh was contagious, he always kept the people around him happy and smiling. He would bring out his Donald Duck voice, random toys, and many jokes to ensure everyone was having a good time while in his presence. Cecil’s friends regard him as a well known member of the community. He was a best friend to many and a great listener, easy-going and stubborn as heck. He will be missed by many. Cecil is survived by his kids Dean (Danielle) Gribble, Lee [Becky) Gribble, Michelle Ahlberg (Tom) Sonny (Carolyn) Malone, Shane Malone (Chandra); grandkids Brandon, Kristina, Kelley, and Mackensey; his brother Claude and sister Eva (Lee) Keller; his best friend Jake Fernandez, and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Marguerite; his siblings, Francis, Jim, Jack, George, David, Milton, Claire, Wesley, and Marie; and his loving wife, Karyl. A 21-gun salute ceremony will be held to honor Cecil at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, at the Bent County-Las Animas Cemetery.
