Las Animas High School Track and Field Athletes of the Week are, from left, Darian Mondragon and Jadann Eck. Darian has really improved his speed and stride over the course of the last few weeks. His times are improving and his team notices. Highlights of the week include placing in the 400m and 200m dash at Cheyenne Wellsand not receiving the first black bead of the season. Jadann stepped onto the track after a few weeks of injury ready to roll. Jadann came in to Tiger Relays as a no time and placed eighth overall running in the first heat — she did the same in Cheyenne Wells in the 100m and 200m. Jadann also PRed in the long jump jumping off of the 12-foot board for the first time. Her celebratory antics earned her a black bead for inadvertently tackling Coach Armstrong.Susan Waring / Las Animas Schools
