Sept. 16, 1954 – July 24, 2016

Teresa Ann Kesterson, 61, of Las Animas passed away after a courageous battle with multiple scleroses on July 24, 2016, at the Bent County Memorial Nursing Home. She was born on Sept. 16, 1954, in Carnation, Washington, to Robert and Olive Joan (Witscher) Walen.

She received her bachelor’s degree in horticulture and her master's in adult education from Washington State University. She worked in Springfield, Colorado, as a horticulturalist and also the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Las Animas. Also a member of the National Santa Fe Trail Association, Bent's Fort Chapter, editor of newsletter and member of the tour committee. She also was a business partner with her husband at the Santa Fe Trail Detours. She enjoyed photography, especially Taos, New Mexico, and other areas and also had a beautiful voice, enjoyed singing and could play multiple instruments.

She is survived by her husband, Dale of the Las Animas home; children, Lori (Lee Archuleta Jr.) Blasberg of La Junta; Shelly (Paul) Presley of Pine, Colorado; grandchildren, Curtis and Ryan Blasberg; brothers, Michael Walen and Patrick (Nancy) Walen. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Both services will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Las Animas with Father Raymond Grimes officiating. Inurnment will be Thursday, July 28, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. at the Fowler Cemetery.
