This is the 28th Arkansas Valley Balloon Festival, Nov. 5 and 6, 2016. It was started to bring something different to the community for everyone to enjoy. Hot Air Balloons are not something seen every day in the skies above the valley. Spectators are encouraged to join the pilots and sponsors on the field each morning and watch as the balloon envelopes are rolled out and filled with air. The pilots and crew are good about explaining the process. All that is asked is that you enjoy yourself and be respectful of others and property. Use common sense around the ropes and fabric so that everyone remains safe.

The Rocky Ford United Methodist church is hosting the “fly by breakfast” Saturday morning at the church across from the Rocky Ford Junior Senior High School launch site and will also have items at the field on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

The gates at the Rocky Ford Junior/Senior High School open at 7 a.m. Saturday with the balloons launching about 7:25 a.m. Because of the time change (Don’t forget to turn your clocks back), Sunday gates will open at 6 a.m. with the balloons launching about 6:25 a.m.

In addition to the balloons launching both Saturday and Sunday, there are many events being held in Rocky Ford, La Junta and other communities. There are many visitors from other parts of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona attending this event. They want to explore what is available in the Arkansas Valley.
