If a team is going to make a push to go deep in the post-season, now is the time to begin. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Las Animas Trojans have the opportunity to make a splash with six games to go. Three of the games are to be played this week (one before publishing). This past week, the Trojans hosted both the Crowley County Chargers and the Rocky Ford Meloneers.

On Friday night, Jan. 27, the Chargers came to town and started strong. Posting 22 in the first quarter, the Chargers never let up. The Trojans, subsequently, gave up too many points at the start to come back. In the end, the Trojans fell 34-70.

James Gallegos led the Trojans with 18 points including shooting an impressive 4/6 from behind the three-point arc. Josh Arrona led in rebounds with six.

The next night, Saturday, the Trojans hosted the Rocky Ford Meloneers. In a game with a similar start, the outcome was the same. In a lopsided match, the Meloneers defeated the Trojans 51-73.

Emilio Gallegos led the Trojans in scoring with 15 and shot 100 percent from the free throw line. Brandon Morlan aided with nine rebounds and three blocks.

This week, the Trojans travel to Fowler on Jan. 31 and to Hoehne on Feb. 3. Game time for both of these is 5 p.m. Finally, the Trojans stay home to host Simla on Saturday, Feb. 4. Games will begin at 2 p.m.
