It was a crazy week of baseball for the Las Animas Trojans. The game scheduled May 8 against the John Mall Panthers went off without a hitch, but then the weather hit. The Trojan win on Monday solidified a game on Tuesday against the Swink Lions. Everything was set, the game was on, the Trojan students were in the stands ready to cheer on their team, and then the floodgates opened.

The game was postponed until Wednesday.

Monday’s game was fairly one-sided with the Trojans scoring 14 unanswered runs over three innings, and the Panthers finally scoring a single run in the fifth inning.

Devon Frazier went 3 for 3 from the plate with 4 RBIs. Josh Arrona had a strong showing on the mound for the Trojans as he struck out 8.

On Wednesday, the Trojans took the field and got the game in just before the rain began again.

Two days later against the Lions, Swink struck first. They scored three in the first three innings and forced the Trojans to play from behind. They tried to rally several times with runners in scoring position, but only managed one. The Trojans fell 1-3.

Stats were not available for this game.

This was the final game of the Trojans’ season. Ending with a 4-14 record, the young Trojan squad has many up-and-coming athletes to look forward to, but they will miss the leadership of seniors Josh Arrona, Andrew Maes, Dylan Ramirez, Latrell Stine, and Jama Martinez. Good luck in your future endeavors, and GO TROJANS!
