Anna Mae Showalter, age 95, passed away on December 5, 2018, at her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born to John E. and Magdalina M. Birkey, on their farm near Manson, Iowa, on May 21, 1923, the eighth of their 15 children. She graduated Manson Iowa High School in 1942. Following graduation, she enrolled in the La Junta Mennonite School of Nursing in La Junta, Colorado. She completed her training becoming a Registered Nurse in 1945.

It was during this time she met Jay W. Showalter, who became her husband on August 12, 1946. They began their married life in Swink, Colorado, later moving to Las Animas, where they purchased a farm in the Melonfield Community. In 1953, she began her 20 year career as a Registered Nurse at the Fort Lyon, Colorado Veteran's Hospital.

She was the life and business partner of Jay throughout their 64 year marriage.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, enjoyed golf, bowling and Tuesday Coffee, faith, family and friends. She served on various committees and boards within the church and the community throughout her life.

She is survived by daughters, Martha Sue Martin and Rebecca Lynn Six; grandchildren, Randall Brent Martin (Jennifer), Lori Ann Martin Strickland (Sean), Sherri Lynn Six and Joseph Ryan Six; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grand children; sister, Pauline Kingery and brothers Jake Birkey and Joe Birkey; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Brenneman and brother-in-law Ernest Showalter. She was preceded in death by her husband Jay, granddaughter Brenda Eileen and sons-in-law, Ron Martin and Ron Six, and 11 siblings.

Memorial Services are scheduled at the First United Methodist Church in Las Animas, Colorado, at 10 a.m. on January 12, 2019.
