Bishop Stephen Berg of the Pueblo Catholic Diocese hosted a Parish Hall meeting at St. Mary’s Hall in Las Animas on February 2.
The Las Animas Council of Catholic Women prepared lunch for approximately 150 persons from La Junta, Lamar, Rocky Ford, Springfield, Holly, Trinidad and other communities in the La Junta Deanery. Desserts were provided by St. Mary’s parishioners
Berg spoke on the Diocese’s strategic plan - the result of listening sessions held over two years in parishes across the Diocese - and the efforts in becoming a “Diocese of the Little Way.”
So far this year, the bishop has traveled to Montrose, Durango, Alamosa and Pueblo to host similar parish hall gatherings.
The Pueblo Diocese serves more than 100,000 Catholics in 29 counties and covers 50,000 square miles.
The La Junta and Las Animas Catholic Churches are served by Father Henry Wertin. His son, Father Matthew Wertin, serves a Catholic Church in Pueblo.
