The Las Animas Trojan wrestlers competed at the Class 2A boys wrestling region 4 tournament this weekend at Otero Junior College. The Trojans qualified just one wrestler to the state tournament with 106 pounder Jacob Lucero finishing fourth.

After losing his first two matches Friday, Lucero bounced back and won twice to finish fourth and qualify for the Class 2 tournament in Denver beginning today.

Lucero lost twice on the first day, both by decision (4-2 and 2-1). On the second day,

Lucero won the first match Saturday via forfeit before securing a pin in just 32 seconds to place.

Freshmen James Zook and Alex Torres both lost twice in the first day, falling short of qualifying for state.

The state tournament begins today at the Pepsi Center.
