The Las Animas Trojans took the basketball court for the last time this past week. Their final regular season battle at Holly led directly into their post-season pigtail games.

The boys had a rough game in Holly from the get-go. The Trojans posted six points in the first quarter and allowed 23. The other three quarters were very similar and the outcome was overwhelmingly one-sided with Holly winning 83-28.

Nick Chavez led the Trojans with 9 points and Dylan Hogue and Cutter Nichols each pulled down 4 rebounds in the Trojans’ loss.

On the girls’ side, the Lady Trojans’ battle was closer in the first half, trailing 21-14 at halftime. But the Lady Wildcats blew it open in the third, more than doubling their score with 23. The Wildcats won 59-32.

The losses on Feb. 12 determined post-season locations for both the Trojans and the Lady Trojans.

The Lady Trojans traveled Walsenburg Thursday to face the John Mall Lady Panthers. In a low scoring affair, the Lady Trojans and Lady Panthers both failed to score in double digits in any quarter, but the Lady Panthers edged the Lady Trojans in each period to come away with a 29-18 victory.

The boys team went to Hoehne on Thursday to face the Farmers. In the first half, the Trojans had a narrow, one-point deficit, but the Farmers came out of the locker room with momentum and came away with the 67-48 victory.

The final losses ended the seasons for both teams. The girls team ended the season 2-18 while the boys finished 1-19.

The Santa Fe League District Tournament will be held at Otero Junior College today and Friday.
