The Las Animas Trojans traveled to La Junta for the annual La Junta Open on Friday March 29.

On the brisk Friday, the Trojans made some noise on both ends of the bracket.

On the girls’ end, Shelby Eck placed 9th overall in the long jump with a jump of 13-08.

Eck, injured for her freshman track season, will be an impactful member of the Trojan squad as she trains and develops as an athlete.

On the boys’ end, the total results were not posted on Milesplit, but the boys’ 3,200-meter relay team placed first overall with a time of 9:23, which places them currently ninth overall in the state of Colorado.

Their placing, should they maintain and continue to improve, will earn them a spot at the state competition in May.

The runners - Maranatha DeVargas, Drew Huffman, James Zook, and Gabe DeVargas - are all excited to improve and prove they deserve to run at state.

DeVargas also placed third overall in the 800-meter run. His time of 2:09 also places him ninth overall at the state level.

On Friday, the Trojans travel to Cheyenne Wells for the annual Tiger Invitational. Field events begin at 10 a.m.
