The Otero Junior College rodeo team, in partnership with the OJC Agriculture Club, will host a showcase rodeo for the community, 7 p.m. Friday at the La Junta Kids Rodeo Grounds. A barbeque will be provided by student life for OJC students beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The night will feature OJC students and alumni competing in bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, goat tying, breakaway and bareback riding events.

The Agriculture club will provide a small petting zoo, lawn games and other entertainment.

"The Rattler Roundup is a great opportunity for our team to show off their talents to our community, who otherwise don’t get to see them compete," said OJC coach Linsay Sumpter. "Aside from seeing the team, we also can’t wait for the community to see the capital improvements that have been made to the rodeo grounds, thanks to the efforts put in by the City of La Junta and former OJC President Jim Rizzuto."

Sumpter encourages everyone in the community to come out and enjoy the evening and support the OJC rodeo team. She explained that the rodeo will be like a real rodeo with music and excitement, though the team will not be competing for prize money like they do in true competitions.
