The Las Animas Trojans are having to be creative with their scheduling these days. With weather taking some of the game days and the expansion of the Santa Fe League creating other scheduling issues, the Trojans have a lot of baseball to play in a little time.

So recently, the Trojans traveled to Fowler to face both the Grizzlies and the Crowley County Chargers.

In their first game against the Chargers, the Trojans kept it close. Scoring first, the Trojans were ahead 1-0, but the Chargers scored two of their own in the first and two more in the second. The Trojans rallied back in the third, scoring three to making the score 6-4 going in to the fourth inning. The Trojans, however, failed to score again in the game, but gave up two more in the fourth and 10 in the fifth to earn a 10-run mercy against the Chargers. The final score ended 17-4.

Joe Hawkins was three-for-three  in the game and, according to MaxPreps, was the only fielder without an error in the game.

Against the Grizzlies, it was much of the same for the Trojans. The Grizzlies scored first and logged six runs before Las Animas got on the board in the third with a run, and another in the fourth. But in the third and fourth, the Grizzlies also scored, and more than doubled their score to 10-run the Trojans 14-2.

Stats were unavailable at the time of writing.

This week, the Trojans face County Line/McClave in a double header on Saturday in McClave. Games are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
