With the pomp and circumstance of Santa Fe Trail Day this week, the Las Animas High School baseball team played just one game on the road against Springfield this past Tuesday.

The Trojans looked to gain moment after defeating John Mall on April 19.

Springfield scored three runs in the bottom of the first before Las Animas answered with two of its own in the top of the second.

Springfield scored eight unanswered runs before the Trojans scored four in the top of the sixth.

Las Animas lost the game 11-6.

Diego Hernandez and Justin Miller each drove in two runs for the Trojans. Devon Frazier was on the mound for Animas, striking out 10 batters but allowing nine runs on 10 hits.

Las Animas is now 2-13 overall and 0-6 in Class 2A District 6 play. The Trojans' regular season concludes this week against Burlington and Holly.
