At 8 a.m. on June 8, in the middle of La Junta City Park, runners, joggers, walkers, bicycle riders and tricycle riders will be checking in to run five kilometers with Bob Fowler, La Junta’s unstoppable runner who survived a heart attack during the Boulder Boulder about three years ago.
“When they asked me to support this race, I said of course I will! I like the Arkansas Valley Cancer Support Group because all the funds stay local," said Fowler. "Yes, I’ll help, because it helps families in the Arkansas Valley with expenses for cancer treatments.”
Fowler intends to be the last to start the race and the last to finish, so that nobody is left running alone. The five kilometer fun run will start at 9 a.m. and finish at the same place it starts. “This is the morning event,” said Fowler. “The evening event will also be on June 8, with a dinner for survivors, ceremonies and a marathon walk at the La Junta High School Track.”
Fowler has ordered new running tights with “Runstoppable” on them. Free T-shirts will also be available at the race for those registered. Registration is $25. Fowler has some registration forms with him at Walmart Pharmacy, but they are also available from Susan Fisher at the La Junta Chamber of Commerce. You can turn them in at either place.
“Glad to support this group," said Fowler.
