The Las Animas Lady Trojan volleyball squad took a skeleton crew to Gunnison this past weekend for some team building, a camp, and a series of tournaments. Of the 8 teams overall, Gunnison, Ouray, Hayden, Norwood, Plateau Valley, Hutchkiss, Elbert
and Las Animas, the Lady Trojans fared well overall.
On the first day of play, the Ladies partook in the aerial ropes course in Salida, which, according to coaches Aaron Warren and Karlee Stuart, is no joke. The ladies arrived in time to take the court. Each day the Ladies participated in two sessions: three
games after breakfast, three more after lunch, and then a camp led by the Western State Volleyball team.
Bracket play began Saturday morning. The Lady Trojans came out of pool play, tied for second overall with their only loss coming from Gunnison – “a whooping in 2 games,” explained Coach Warren.
After the seeding, the Ladies participated in bracket play where they faced Gunnison in the final and came back to win the camp championship in two games.
This is merely a taste of what’s been happening in Las Animas as far as summer sports are concerned. The Trojans have been active on the gridiron and basketball courts as well. Things are certainly looking optimistic for the Trojans this season.
