It has been a summer of changes for Las Animas School District across the board.

One of those changes was at the helm of the Las Animas football program.

Taking over for James Lopez is Tyson Vigil, who has assisted the program for several years and played football at Cornell College.

Vigil has been busy in the off-season with the Trojans hosting several voluntary camps and averaging anywhere from 10-12 players across all camps.

Football is the true athletic passion of Vigil. He grew up in one of the many heydays of the Trojan Football Program and often shares that he couldn’t wait to grow up to be a Trojan.

This excitement boils over to his athletes who have also been working hard preparing for a new regiment and a new program with familiar faces.

Coaches Bob Beebe, Joey Garcia and Teo Alvidrez will join Vigil in preparing the Trojans for battle.

The Trojans take the field for the first time this season on Sept. 6 against Custer County. Game time is 7 p.m.
