Visitation for Las Animas, Colo., resident, Vernon Hale will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, Colo. Cremation will follow visitation and inurnment will take place in Oklahoma at a later date.
Vernon William Hale was born Nov. 21, 1934, to Earl and Lilly Hale in Little Kansas, Okla. He grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma and attended a Country School. Vernon graduated with a master’s degree from OSU. On Feb. 4, 1952, Vernon married Erma “June” Barrett. In 1959 Vernon moved his family to Las Animas to start his teaching career. After teaching for 30 years, Vernon retired from teaching in 1989. Vernon passed away in Las Animas, Colo. on Aug. 19, 2019, at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife, June Hale of Las Animas, CO; daughters, Toni (Lyle) Johnston, Melody Watters of Tucson, AZ, Shelly Wilkins of Colorado Springs, CO,; son, Westley Wayne (Karma) Hale of Tucson, AZ; 2 sisters, Marie and Orlene; 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lilly Hale; and brother, Joe Hale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vernon’s name to the Las Animas/Bent County Golf Course.
