Tim Yount released his first On the Mat high school wrestling rankings on Sunday and 30 local individuals were listed.

Two local teams were also in their respective rankings. Rocky Ford is ranked second in Class 2A. Two other Santa Fe League teams are also ranked as John Mall is sixth and Rye is 11th.

Defending state champion Wray is ranked first, followed by Rocky Ford, Buena Vista, Cedaredge, Lyons, John Mall, Highland, Paonia, Centauri, Hotchkiss, Rye, Byers, Hayden and Sedgwick County/Fleming.

La Junta is ranked 11th in Class 3A. One other Tri-Peaks League team, Lamar, is ranked third.

Jefferson is the top-ranked team, followed by Valley, Lamar, Pagosa Springs, Berthoud, Eagle Valley, Alamosa, Weld Central, Fort Morgan, Platte Valley, La Junta, Woodland Park, Sterling, Eaton, Bennett and Skyview.

Here are the local individuals in this week's rankings.

Class 3A

La Junta

La Junta High School has five ranked individuals in Class 3A, and it is led by two-time defending state champion Isaiah Gamez, who is at the top of the 120-pound standings.

Other ranked Tigers include Elijah Montalvan, who is fourth at 106, Mitchell Peabody, who is fifth at 220, Wyatt Hoeppner, who is seventh at 195, and Noah Barrett, who is 12th at 126.

Class 2A

Rocky Ford

Rocky Ford has 10 wrestlers in the rankings with defending state champion Jesse Tapia who is at the top at 220 pounds.

The other ranked Meloneers include David Duran, who is third at 106, Jadon Baldonado, who is fourth at 160, Joziah Maestas, who is fourth at 145, Dezmon Reyes, who is fourth at 113, Isiah Garcia, who is fifth at 170, Santino Mendoza, who is sixth at 138, Michael Maldonado, who is seventh at 126, David Medina, who is seventh at 152, and Quentin Venard, who is eighth at 132.


Swink has two ranked individuals and the Lions are led by Michael Romero, who is the top-ranked wrestler at 106 pounds.

Also ranked for Swink at Matthew Mendoza, who is 11th at 152.


Fowler had three in the rankings, including J.J. Horn, who is fourth at 220, Orin Carnes, who is eighth at 170 and Fernando Salazar, who is 13th at 120.

Crowley County

Crowley County has five ranked wrestlers with Adam Schulz first at 170 pounds. Other ranked Chargers are Jaden Harris, who is eighth at 160, Tach Brewer, who is 11th at 145, Dillon Buford, who is 12th at 120, and Zach Auchterlonie, who is 14th at 152.

County Line

The County line Rivals, a co-op of McClave, Eads and Wiley high schools, has four ranked individuals.

The ranked Rivals include Aiden Michael, who is fifth at 145, Zach Fowler, who is seventh at 160, Chase Stolzenberger, who is 11th at 285, and A.J. Wilk, who is 11th at 170.

Las Animas

Las Animas has a single ranked wrestler in Doug Miller, who is eighth at 220 pounds.
