Colorado Aviation Business Association (CABA) recently held its ninth Holiday Charity Drive and Colorado VFW Airlift to benefit needy veterans throughout the state. This was the 4 th anniversary of the Las Animas, Colo., landing, which was held Dec 17, 2019, after the original date was cancelled due to weather complications.

This program is a collaboration of CABA, Dept of CO VFW, Metropolitan State University of Denver Fly Team and area volunteer pilots. VFW Post #2411 in Las Animas is the area coordinator and received over 1200 lbs of food and toys flown in by three planes piloted by Sue Wolber of Fort Collins, Ed Binkley of Greeley, and Zack Zimmerman of Parker. The planes were met and emptied by 20 members of the VFW Post/Aux #2411, Light & Power employees and community volunteers, even Santa.

Boxes and toys were distributed to Ordway, La Junta, Las Animas, Hasty, and Lamar. Veteran Service Officers representing those towns were instrumental is finishing the distribution process.
