The 22nd Annual Girls in the Middle Conference is Saturday, March 7, at Otero Junior College. The theme of the conference this year is "Breaking New Ground." The original program was for girls in grades six, seven and eight, but last year expanded to include fifth graders as well as a focus on the Arts, moving from STEM to STEAM.

All girls, grades five through eight, whether public, private or home-schooled, are encouraged to attend. Throughout the day the girls participate in hands-on workshops led by women in STEAM fields right here in Colorado.

The goal is to encourage fifth to eighth grade girls in southeastern Colorado to continue to study math, science and technology once they enter high school. The cost is $5, which includes continental breakfast, lunch, t-shirt and bag.

Registration for the 2020 Conference opens on Monday, Jan. 20 and ends on Wednesday, Feb. 19 (they have to know how many will be eating). To register, go to the website www.girlsinthemiddle.com. If you have questions, call Angela Bamber at 719-383-1320 or 456-0087.
