The Las Animas Trojans struggled against two mighty league foes this week. On Friday night the Trojans hosted the Rocky Ford Meloneers and on Saturday the Trojans traveled to Fowler to face the Grizzlies.

Against Rocky Ford the Trojans put up a strong fight after only scoring 7 in the first quarter and allowing the Meloneers to go up 19-7. As the Trojans tried to claw back, they outscored their opposition 10-4 in the second for a mere 21-17 deficit at half. In the
third, both teams were quick to up points but the Trojans couldn’t pull any closer, and in the fourth the Trojans couldn’t make up lost points and fell 46-38.

The next night in Fowler, the Trojans struggled to get on the board against a tough Fowler defense. Las Animas never scored more than 9 points in a quarter, and were shut out completely in the fourth as they fell 71-21 to the Grizzlies.

This week is Winter Sports week for the Trojans. In addition to some comfy dress-up days, all sports teams will take the floor/mat on Thursday with a final schedule to be determined. The Trojan varsity wrestlers will wrestle against the John Mall
Panthers, and then all basketball teams will face the Panthers as well. Games begin at 4:30 p.m. today. The Trojans also host Simla on Saturday and games begin at 2:30pm.
