William "Bruce" Thayer was born on Nov. 9, 1936 and passed away on Jan. 25, 2020.
He was born to William Edmund Thayer and Alice Leona Roberson Thayer in Las Animas, Colo.
Bruce is survived by his son Curtis "Curt" Thayer and wife Nevita of Roslett, Texas, son William Anthony Lee "Tony" Thayer and his wife Shannon of Dallas, Texas, granddaughter Christina "Tina" Gunter and husband Blake of Farmers Branch, Texas, granddaughter Jordan Thayer of Dallas, Texas, brother James K. Thayer of Las Animas, as well as other family and friends. Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Mary Antonnette Sanders Thayer, parents Ed and Alice Thayer and sister Barbara Sides who is survived by her husband, Bill Sides, of Austin, Texas.
Bruce graduated from Bent County High School in Colorado. Bruce served valiantly in Vietnam as a combat medic and was responsible for saving the lives of the brave men serving our country. After a distinguished career in the Navy, Bruce and his family settled in the suburbs of Dallas, Texas. He worked as an industrial nurse for Gardner Denver for 11 years, then for Home Depot until he lost his eyesight due to diabetes.
He was an inspiration to all that knew him, because although it was his year to retire, he went to Criss Cole School for the Blind in Austin, Texas. Then with his loyal seeing eye dog, Vance, at his side he attended Hands On Therapy School in Mesquite, Texas to become a licensed massage therapist and went on to work for Massage Envy. He continued to work until the passing of his sweet wife in August of 2015. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
