Otero Junior College's 2020 Graduation Ceremony will be held virtually this year due to public health and safety risks posed by COVID-19. The ceremony will be presented on OJC's social media platforms and on the OJC website May 2 at 10 a.m.
OJC President, Tim Alvarez, said, “Due to the disruption based on COVID-19, we did not have the opportunity to validate the education journey and conclusion for this group of students. We were not afforded the opportunity to say good-bye. Although not ideal, we still believe it is of paramount importance to provide a virtual opportunity for students and families to officially celebrate their educational successes.”
Due to the nature of this online presentation, the video will be an abbreviated form of a typical ceremony. This virtual presentation will not be live; it will be compiled and presented as a ceremony that viewers can return to and view at any time.
OJC Graduates will have their mortarboard and tassel mailed to them. These students are being encouraged to take photos and post them on social media with the hashtag #OJCgraduation2020.
Tim Kelley, OJC’s social media and athletic information coordinator, asked graduates to share an experience they had at OJC that made a positive impact on them. Video stories will be added to the graduation ceremony video as a way to recognize students individually since they will not be able to be there in person.
