The Swallows Charter Academy boys golf team won the Class 3A Santa Fe League team title for the second time in school history, capping an impressive regular season.
Swallows topped Rye (second); Fowler (third); and Rocky Ford (fourth) to capture the league title. The Spartans won a four-team Santa Fe League tournament in Rye; won the Fowler Invitational; finished second at the South Invite; and captured a fourth-place finish at the Canon City Invite. The latter two tournaments were mostly featuring Class 4A schools.
In addition, senior Keaton Murphy won the individual league title.
Murphy shot a 76 and won the Fowler Invitational, shot an 80 against Rye, an 86 at his home tournament and an 80 against Rocky Ford. His average league score was an 80.5.
Rye’s Chance Donlan finished second with an average score of 83.
SCA senior Colby Roberts finished third in the Santa Fe League individual standings.
Roberts shot an 80 at Fowler, a 95 at Rye, an 85 at the Spartan Invite and a 91 at Rocky Ford. The senior finished with a league average of 87.75.
Swallows junior Ben Compton also earned a spot on the all-league team, finishing fifth.
Compton shot a 91 at Fowler, a 93 at Rye, a 100 at his home invite and an 85 at Rocky Ford. His average league score was 92.25.
Rye’s Bain Roy finished seventh with an average score of 94 and the Thunderbolts’ Markus Anglin came in ninth with an average of 101.25.
The Spartans will compete at the Class 3A Region 1 tournament at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Hollydot Golf Course in Rye.
The Class 3A state championships will be held Oct. 5-6 at Dos Rios Golf Course in Gunnison.
