Kathryn (Kathy) F. Palomino, 84, a former long-time resident of both Las Animas, Colo. and Pueblo, Colo., and most recently of Broomfield, Colo., passed away on May 5, 2020. She joined her husband, Benjamin, three days after his passing, both due to Covid-19.
Kathryn was born in El Paso, Texas on Feb. 13, 1936, to Manuela Arrona. She married Benjamin on Sept. 8, 1954, in Las Animas, and they remained devoted to one another for over 65 years.
Shortly after marriage, the newly-weds began a lifetime adventure of military life. Over the years, the family moved numerous times and lived in Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Guam, Illinois, and Ecuador.
Due to Ben’s military duties, Kathryn ‘single-parented’ much of the time.
A particularly noteworthy ‘Mom’ feat was traveling alone in 1963 with three children from Las Animas to Guam while pregnant with the fourth.
Expanding on that feat in Guam, she nutured 4 children through Christmas holiday typhoon, alone - while Benjamin was on assignment evacuating aircraft to safety from the storm. Her entire brood slept safely together with/in her bed, while the storm raged and the ‘lanai’ flooded, soaking all Christmas gifts under the tree.
When Benjamin retired from military, the family settled in Las Animas.
With children in school, Kathryn embarked on career with VA, eventually retiring early due to MS.
After retiring, Kathryn was able to resume traveling with Benjamin for adventure and spiritual pilgrimage. Destinations visited included Mexico, Rome, Vatican City, Argentina, and Hawaii.
When asked ‘where is your favorite place or country in the world?’, her response was ‘where-ever all my children are all together with me.’
Kathryn is survived by children: Benjamin J Palomino and wife (Faith),
