Benjamin (Ben) Palomino

Benjamin (Ben) Palomino, 89, a former long-time resident of both Las Animas, Colo., and Pueblo, Colo.; and most recently of Broomfield, Colo., passed away on May 2, 2020. Three days later, he was joined in eternity with his adored and beloved wife, Kathryn, both due to Covid-19.

Benjamin was born in Las Animas on Nov. 16, 1930, to Adolph and Ramona Palomino. Benjamin and Kathryn were married on Sept. 8, 1954, in Las Animas and remained devoted partners for over 65 years.

Shortly after marriage, Benjamin enlisted in the Air Force, after already having served in both the Army and Navy. Thereafter, Benjamin and Kathryn grew their family and embarked on global adventure, with assignments in Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana, Guam, Illinois, and Ecuador.

Upon retirement from the military, he completed another career with the VA, retiring as Safety Officer at Fort Lyon, Colo. Acting on his deep sense of commitment to military and veterans he became a very active and contributing member of the Disabled American Veterans organization, eventually serving as State Commander of DAV.

Benjamin shared a love of travel and exploration with Kathryn. They jointly indulged that passion with adventures traveling to Mexico, Argentina, Rome, and Hawaii in retirement.
