My name is Kimberlie D. King and I am running for Bent County Commissioner District 1.
Currently I'm a Las Animas City Councilwoman and a board member for the Bent County Community Center. My experience and roots run deep in this county; I have been a homeowner here for fifteen years, raised my family here, owned my own business, managed a business, and I deeply understand the importance of our agricultural community. I was born on a dry-land wheat farm and am familiar with the struggles that are faced daily in that integral industry. I've gotten to experience the history and creative sides of our community as a volunteer at Bent County's Historical Society and the Bent County Art Guild. I've seen what our residents are capable of achieving when we come together as volunteers for the Las Animas Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) program. Together we have dramatically decreased the stray cat population and improved the health of the existing cat colonies.
I am driven to be the voice of my neighbors in this county, not just within the city limits of Las Animas. I desire to be your voice; the voice of those not in elected positions, the voice of those barely scraping by, the voice of business owners, farmers, ranchers, renters, homeowners, entrepreneurs, and everyone in between. I stand to represent the choices and voices of those that elect me, not my own, or only those of a select few. For me, being elected to an office is not about sharing my own opinions and furthering my own cause, it's about listening to those I serve and fighting for what matters to them. As a part of the City Council, I worked directly with the City/County Attorney by creating a Marijuana Poll to give those directly affected a forum to be heard in their own words. It’s critical to me that all residents are able to speak up and have their concerns heard.
Bent County is a beautiful rural community full of hard-working people with unique concerns.
For 15 years I have called this place home and in that time, I have come to see how truly special it is. Our home is rich in people with great ideas and important stories to tell. It is my passion to stand for what we truly need to continue to thrive.
I'm honored to have this opportunity. I'm excited to learn more about our residents' needs and take action on them. Looking out for you: Your Choice - Your Voice!
