The Pueblo County High School diver had a strong performance Saturday in her final competition.
The Hornets senior finished sixth overall and was a critical piece in Pueblo County finishing as runners-up.
Steele completed the event with 384.9 points and earned her highest placement at the Class 3A state meet.
Last season, Steele placed 18th in the semifinals of diving with 213.8 points and did not qualify for the finals.
Coach Dan Radiff said Steele, along with her teammates Preslei Hankins and Molly Henrikson, provided the Hornets with a solid platform to compete with Kent Denver, which finished third.
Steele said she didn’t expect to finish so high.
“Being able to get to that point was incredible,” Steele said. “It made me feel like I put more of an effort in.”
