Investigation opens following early morning shooting at Rocky Ford gas station

A shooting occurred in the southeast corner of the Rocky Ford Loaf 'N Jug parking lot around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday. The scene of the crime extended into the street says a news release from the Rocky Ford Police Department.

A shooting that occurred early Tuesday at the Loaf 'N Jug gas station in Rocky Ford is being investigated by the Rocky Ford Police Department.

A news release from Rocky Ford police states that dispatch received a call around 3:40 a.m. regarding a male that had been shot at the gas station.

According to the release, the shooting reportedly occurred near the southeast corner of the gas station's parking lot.

Presently, the police department considers the shooting an isolated incident without immediate further threat to the public.

Police Chief Angelo Griego told the La Junta Tribune-Democrat that the shooting victim is alive, but said that he could not comment on further details such as whether or not the shooting is suspected to be a crime of passion or premeditated.

The investigation is open and ongoing.
